Labská dam is one of the largest and one of the most beautiful trout still waters in the Czech Republic. It is located on the Labe (Elbe) river near town Spindleruv Mlyn in the Giant Mountains.

How To Get There

Labska is about 1 km long reservoir on the upper Labe river. The fishery is easily accesable from the road between Vrchlabi and Spindleruv Mlyn.

Location details

Labska Dam is well known for fly fishing from Belly Boat. Belly Boats are allowed in both sections (catch & kill and catch & release).

Close to the dam there is a place where bank fishing is possible as well. Another good spot is close to the tributary, however here waders are necessary. There are no boats on the reservoirs.

Species

The reservoir is stocked with good quality rainbow trouts, brook trouts and brown trouts. In the area near the tributary there is chance to catch trophy graylings.

How To Fish

There is a good dry fly fishing possible at Labská. Very popular is the dry fly fishing from belly boats along the reservoir's banks or near the tributary.

Another good method is static nymph fishing with floating line and glass buzzers. On deeper water many local falks fish with sinking fly line and lures or streamers.

Equipment

The most usefull tool for Labska is the belly boat. Bring your own or you can hire one there. Light rod will do well during calm weather (AFTMA 5) but for most conditions bring your reservoir rod (9 to 10 ft rod AFTMA 6-7).

You will need a high quality fluorocarbon as most of the fish are in good quality and they like to fight!

Practical Info

The fishing season starts on 16th of April and ends on 30st of November. The area near the tributary is closed until 16th of June due to grayling protection.
